About Ross

Ross has an abundance of experience in all facets of life.  Details "About Ross" are listed in the menu items to the left.  Below is a brief description of Ross Eadie.

Home

I love Winnipeg, and I love the Seven Oaks, North Winnipeg region.  I have lived in the North End and West Kildonan most of my life.  There is no better place to live!  Check out the places I have lived in  the Mynarski Ward by clicking on the picture below.

Patty and our teenage kids appreciate the friendly people in the North End / West Kildonan.  Many neighbourhoods do not have neighbours who talk to each other as much.  Growing up in St. James, Patty will not live anywhere else but the North End, West Kildonan area now.

Work

Ross currently works as a policy analyst in the area of disability issues.  After losing his eyesight, Ross went back to college to obtain his Business Administration diploma.  He graduated with top honours in 1990.

Upon graduation, Ross worked in his field of accounting and finance for the not for profit organization called the Independent Living Resource Centre.  With federal funding running out, Ross began his business Info Equity Inc. which offered products and services in the information technology industry for ten years.  With Ross's assistance, Wood Floors & More Ltd. was started to allow his father, brother and friend make a living. Advocacy and political activities began to take up too much of Ross's time.  He closed the Info Equity business when he became a school board trustee in the Seven Oaks School Division.

Ross believes others would say he was a very good trustee giving his full effort to ensure the education of students was the paramount objective for all within the school division.  Check out the "Trustee Experience" link on the home page of this websit e.  With Ross's participation, the Seven Oaks School Division replaced a high school with a state of the art education facility, and he was there to set in motion the upgrading of Garden City Collegiate with the connection of the two buildings with a gymnasium and student lounge.

Volunteering

Ross has been very involved in community development, resolving issues, and participating in discussions affecting families.

A partial list of the organizations that he has worked with are:

  • Seven Oaks Residents Association
  • Seven Oaks Historical Society of Winnipeg Inc.
  • Building Communities Initiative Partnership Advisory Committee
  • Network of Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Manitoba
  • Injured Workers Manitoba

There are so many people building our communities.  I have met many of these people in the North End / West Kildonan area.  As City Councillor it will be one of my roles to make sure these hard working people have the resources to get the job done.  Our resident committees need support in finding funds to improve our neighbourhoods and can use assistance in organizing citizen patrols or other safe community efforts.  Here are some efforts that have been my honour to participate in:

Assisted in creating a pamphlet for a children's historical trail in and around Kildonan Park.

Developed a grant proposal to allow students to conduct interviews with seniors to create a "people's history" of the Seven Oaks area.

Played a role in establishing a "Seven Oaks Parents in Support of Aboriginal Education" committee, which developed an after-school program called Keeping Balance.

Performed numerous presentations to departments, City Council and Standing Committees on issues of zoning, property tax assessment, various building projects and traffic issues.

Wrote a successful proposal in consultation with two others to conduct an Accessibility Audit of the City of Winnipeg's "Centre Plan Area" (downtown).

Wrote a detailed report with one other person on the delivery of Handi Transit (HT) service demonstrating the pitfalls of individual trips vs. mass transportation to serve the real demand for accessible transit.

Wrote a report with one other person on the pitfalls of Handi Transit privatization with an analysis of regular vs. Handi Transit ridership and costs.

Participated on a consultation committee to determine accessible ways for people with disabilities to vote in the City of Winnipeg and school board elections.

With many others, successfully planned an advocacy strategy that led to Mayor Susan Thompson, Councillor Glen Murray, and City Council approving    the installation of audible signals at intersections where walk lights exist.
